sons 1st buck

so my son is 10 yrs old and took hunters safety course last spring break and then mowed grass all summer too purchase his own rifle a 270 savage . So went out last day of late buck for a morning hunt that just turned out to be a soggy morning and that was it. we went back in for a quick bite and dry clothes and headed back out for the afternoon hunt . we went too a spot i had found during archery season last yr and kept that spot in the back of my memory bank too check out while taking my son out this yr. we get in there overlooking a small clearing with 5- 7 yr old jack firs . we get settled in and i realize i forgot the shooting sticks and jarred , my son says" its fine dad " so i find a small stick laying nerby hoping well have too use it . so after about 25 30 min of glassing and waiting my son wants too get the grunt tube and doe call out so i finally give in and strt doing short grunts followed by doe in the can . After about 10 mins i start doing longer grunts followed by doe call and all of a sudden we both see a deer walking away headed for the timber at about 180yrds . I quicky glass and see horns so i get the stick up for him and of course the stick is too short so i put my foot under the stick too raise it higher , he tells me he sees it so i am trying too not shake the stick and hold my breath and it seemed like forever before he finally torched a round off . we both see it drop at about 185 yrs in his tracks and not even budge . we both started hollering andhigh fiving and we both couldnt believe what had just happened . so we head down there and after about 15 min of falling and rolling around trying too get there we finally reach the buck and its absolute pig of a two point , the biggest i've seen especially for a blacktail . A dad couldn't of asked for a better way too see his son get his first buck . So i told him we would get a shoulder mount so he could have one on the wall by dads.

Great story, congrats to your son. I like the part about the lawn mowing, I did the same thing at 10 when I passed my hunter safety class.

That's fantastic!!! I shot a big 2X2 like that in '85. It's still my favorite trophy without question. Great pictures too. I like the different expressions
Congratulations.
